Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a sisterhood of over 200,000 predominantly Black, college-educated women and currently has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the Unites States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas Jamaica, the Republic of Korea and Canada. The organization is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.

The Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school and college students throughout the United States. We are dedicated to the continued support and development of  the youth in our community and will offer scholarship award opportunities again this year, to deserving high school and college students who are committed to furthering their education.

  • Two Letters of Recommendation. One from a school professor/official and one from a community leader not affiliated with your school (Pastor, Volunteer Organization, Girl Scout leader, Employer/Supervisor, etc.).  Letters of Recommendation must be on letterhead, signed, and must include recommender’s title. Recommendations should be from persons who can attest to your character, interpersonal relationships, personal attributes and academic achievements. They should not be written by family members.
  •  Wallet-size photo (appropriate for business use)
  • Letter of Acceptance from college/university
  •  Essay
    •  Describe a significant experience which has inspired you to pursue a college education
    • Must be typed, 12-point font, double spaced
    • Minimum of 300 words but not more than 500 words
  • Official Transcript. Must include GPA, Rank, State Mandated Test Scores, SAT/ACT Scores, and Registrar’s Stamp/Seal/Signature. PLEASE NOTE: If your school is on a 5-point or 6-point GPA System, please instruct the Registrar to provide a document denoting the converted GPA
  • Essay
    • What inspired you to pursue a degree in your chosen field of study?
    • Must be typed, 12-point font, double spaced
    • Minimum of 300 words but not more than 500 words
  •  Official Transcript. Must include cumulative GPA and a Registrar’s Stamp/Seal/Signature
